MOS to PostScript

Why convert MOS to PostScript?

The main difference: MOS is an unprocessed sensor data format, while PostScript is a vector format.

Develop RAW into a ready-to-use photo

A MOS file holds the raw readings from the camera sensor, not a finished picture. Converting it to PostScript applies the camera's colors and gives you a normal photo you can share, print or post right away.

Where PostScript works best

PostScript is ideal for print jobs and printer workflows. Converting gives you a file that works in the apps and websites that ask for PostScript.

What is an MOS (camera RAW) file?

MOS is the camera RAW format of Leaf - Leaf medium-format digital backs. Instead of a finished photo, a RAW file stores the unprocessed data straight from the camera's sensor.

That gives photographers maximum room to adjust exposure, white balance and color afterwards, but RAW files are large (often 20-60 MB) and need special software to view. Converting to JPG produces a normal photo you can share right away.

How to open an MOS (camera RAW) file

Capture One opens MOS files, and Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop (Camera Raw), Capture One, darktable and RawTherapee support them too. Mac Photos and Preview open most RAW formats; on Windows, the free Raw Image Extension adds support to the Photos app. Without any of these, convert MOS to JPG online.

What is a PostScript file?

PostScript (.ps) is Adobe's page description language from 1984 - the language many professional printers speak. A .ps file describes a whole page or document as instructions for drawing text, shapes and images.

PostScript files mostly come from print workflows and "print to file" output. PDF was built on the same ideas and has replaced it for everyday use.

How to open a PostScript file

Ghostscript and GSview open PostScript files on Windows; macOS Preview handled them up to Monterey. Adobe Acrobat Distiller converts them to PDF. Converting to PDF or PNG is the easiest way to view one today.
