TIFF to Photoshop PSD

Why convert TIFF to PSD?

TIFF and PSD are both lossless formats. PSD is the usual choice for layered Photoshop projects.

Transparent areas stay transparent

TIFF and PSD both handle transparency, so anything see-through in the original is still see-through after conversion.

Where PSD works best

PSD is ideal for layered Photoshop projects. Converting gives you a file that works in the apps and websites that ask for PSD.

What is a TIFF file?

TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) is a high-quality format used in professional photography, printing, scanning and publishing. It's usually saved without lossy compression, so it keeps every detail - and produces large files.

TIFF can store layers, 16-bit color, multiple pages and transparency, which makes it a favorite of print shops and archives. For sharing online, it's far too heavy.

How to open a TIFF file

Windows Photos and Mac Preview open most TIFF files. Photoshop, Lightroom, GIMP and Affinity Photo handle advanced ones with layers or 16-bit color. Browsers generally can't display TIFF, so convert to JPG or PNG to share.

What is a Photoshop PSD file?

PSD (Photoshop Document) is Adobe Photoshop's native file format. It saves everything you're working on - layers, masks, text, adjustment layers and effects - so you can keep editing later.

PSD files are often huge and can only be fully edited in Photoshop or compatible apps. To share or post the design, you need a flattened image like JPG or PNG.

How to open a Photoshop PSD file

Adobe Photoshop opens PSD files fully. Photopea (free, in the browser), GIMP and Affinity Photo open most of them; Mac Preview and Quick Look show a flattened preview. Converting gives you the final image without needing Photoshop.
