DCR to PDF

Why convert DCR to PDF?

The main difference: DCR is an unprocessed sensor data format, while PDF is a document format. PDF is supported almost everywhere; DCR isn't. PDF can have a transparent background, DCR can't.

Works on every device

Plenty of apps and websites can't read DCR (none (needs a RAW editor)). A PDF copy opens on any phone, tablet, computer or browser, so you can view, upload or send the picture without hunting for special software.

Develop RAW into a ready-to-use photo

A DCR file holds the raw readings from the camera sensor, not a finished picture. Converting it to PDF applies the camera's colors and gives you a normal photo you can share, print or post right away.

Supports transparent backgrounds

PDF can hold a transparent background. Convert your image first, then cut out the background or place it on top of other designs.

One file to print, email or submit

A PDF looks identical on every screen and printer, and it's the format most application forms, schools and offices want.

What is a DCR (camera RAW) file?

DCR is the camera RAW format of Kodak - professional DCS digital cameras. Instead of a finished photo, a RAW file stores the unprocessed data straight from the camera's sensor.

That gives photographers maximum room to adjust exposure, white balance and color afterwards, but RAW files are large (often 20-60 MB) and need special software to view. Converting to JPG produces a normal photo you can share right away.

How to open a DCR (camera RAW) file

Adobe Photoshop (Camera Raw) opens DCR files, and Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop (Camera Raw), Capture One, darktable and RawTherapee support them too. Mac Photos and Preview open most RAW formats; on Windows, the free Raw Image Extension adds support to the Photos app. Without any of these, convert DCR to JPG online.

What is a PDF file?

PDF (Portable Document Format) was created by Adobe in 1993 to make documents look identical on every screen and printer. A PDF can contain text, vector graphics and images across any number of pages.

It's the standard for forms, contracts, resumes, school assignments and anything you print or submit. Turning photos and scans into a PDF bundles them into one tidy, universally readable file.

How to open a PDF file

Every web browser opens PDFs, as do Mac Preview, the Files app on iPhone and the free Adobe Acrobat Reader on Windows, Mac and Android. To get pictures out of a PDF, convert its pages to JPG or PNG.
